In 2013, our journey took an inspiring turn when we embarked on the creation of the documentary “Goonga Pehelwan.” This captivating film centered on Virender Singh Yadav, a remarkable deaf wrestler whose story not only touched our hearts but reshaped our perception of sports and inclusivity.

Virender’s tale is one of sheer determination, highlighting his aspiration to represent India at the Olympic level despite facing the unique challenge of deafness. Wrestling, a sport reliant on auditory cues, became his canvas for showcasing exceptional skill through visual adaptation.

Beyond mere storytelling, our documentary became a catalyst for advocating inclusivity. We aimed to address the disparities that differently-abled athletes encounter, advocating for equal opportunities and respect within sports and society.

The documentary resonated widely, receiving numerous accolades at the national level. Its impact extended far beyond recognition; it transformed Virender’s life. With newfound support, he triumphed at the Paralympics, earning a coveted gold medal. This success prompted recognition from the Haryana government, securing him a cash award and a junior coaching position.

Moreover, our documentary instigated policy changes within the Haryana government. Previously reserved only for Olympic athletes, cash prizes and government positions were extended to Paralympic athletes, marking a significant stride towards inclusivity in sports at a policy level.
